With the two indictments of officials close to the
president, it may seem that our country is falling apart. It may, in fact, be, but we have reason to
hold our heads high. While the federal
government is issuing decrees that disrupt the environment, eliminate
regulations on various industries, and the tariffs that are causing even
farmers to have problems, the states are stepping up and showing that We The People have a say in how our
government will be run.
That said, there are still things that the president’s
government is doing that is disturbing, to say the least. The jailing of innocent children without
their parents is unconscionable. Allowing
wild animals to be hunted in their dens is unconscionable. Breaking with the nations with whom we have
had treaties and commitments over many different presidential careers is
unconscionable.
It is important that we acknowledge these things and do what
we can to put a stop to such abhorrent policies. How do we do it? Some people prefer to sign petitions and
participate in demonstrations. Some
people like to call their congress members.
The important thing is to do something.
We can’t just allow these policies to go unchecked.
The single most important thing is to accept that our
government is doing these things which so blatantly go against our personal and
religious values. You may say that he is
doing these things because they must be done.
Or that he is justified in doing what is best for the people. That is not true. He is backing industry and undoing things
that are meant to help our environment and protect the interests of the
people. I ask you, what or who is being
helped by the unsportsmanlike killing of bears in their dens as they
sleep? Who benefits from drilling for
oil in national parks? Who benefits from
the revitalization of coal mines? Do not
give up your truth to patronize someone as unworthy as our president.
Finally, I ask that you support policies that bring us
together as a nation. The saddest thing
is that our country is being polarized and we are not coming together as
Americans. This has nothing to do with
whether football players stand for the National Anthem. It is about what we, the American People, do
in our daily lives and hold together.
May you be richly blessed.
